Clinical Counselling

Counselling sessions are provided by Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) who are registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSW) who are registered with British Columbia College of Social Workers. All associates provide counselling services under the supervision of Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych.

Scott (he/him/his) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor at The Psychological Health and Safety (PH&S) Clinic. He believes in helping empower others to overcome obstacles that interfere with their ability to live life in a meaningful way. His passion to help has allowed him to work as a life-skills counsellor, a teacher, a coach, a youth advisor, and now as a clinical counsellor.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Counselling from City University of Seattle (2022). Scott is currently in the process of registering with the BCACC.

As a counsellor, Scott believes that the client is the expert of their own experience and with some guidance and curiosity can discover the answers to life’s questions within themselves. He believes in the importance of having a safe space to give voice and attention to the strong feelings that clients may not feel comfortable sharing with others in their lives.

Approach

Scott uses an integrative evidence-based approach to facilitate a meaningful counselling experience for the client. He focuses first on establishing a strong rapport to create a safe and secure place for the client to be vulnerable with their feelings. He thinks it’s important to have the sessions client-centred to allow therapy to move in a direction that the client feels is most important to them.

Scott integrates different modalities to explore the role of past experiences for the client in their current situation. Once a more comprehensive understanding has been established, he addresses the identified issues and works alongside the client to brainstorm ways to create opportunities for change in their lives. He also includes mindfulness practices in his work as a way to increase the clients’ ability to tolerate feelings of distress by gaining a deeper understanding of what is happening simultaneously in their minds and their bodies.

Specialization

Scott is trained in brief therapy, CBT, family systems, grief and loss, addictions, and is certified to work with complex trauma. He also has a particular interest in working with clients experiencing dysfunctional family dynamics, grief and loss, and boundary and communication issues.
